#Udf file system reader windows xp install
It should have just displayed the contents of the Direct CD disc, which should not have had a chance to install the reader.
I have no idea why the native XP reader, udfs.sys is/was not working on your machine. They don't exist in a normal XP system so it should be quite safe to delete them. Those two are the only files which I could find that a Direct CD disc would install into Windows XP. There was also a file called udfrunin.exe installed in \Windows\System32. In each case a file called udfreadr.sys was installed in \Windows\System32\Drivers. When I killed it off and inserted a direct CD disc of either flavor (v4 or v5) the disc offered to install the UDFreader.
The 'native' UDFreader in XP is udfs.sys. I had to kill the Windows XP UDF reader to get any reaction. It was very educational.ĭirect CD discs from ECDC version 4 and 5 just read nicely when I put them into a clean install of Windows XP with SP-2. I just went and had a play for a couple of hours. But still my computer feels like an old Pentium I, although it's a Pentium IV, 2,60GHz. I already scanned my computer with an antivirus and antispyware programs and with the scanner from microsoft itself. When I login under my other account (using the minimum of programs), my computer is still as fast as before.

I don't know when it happened, maybe after an upgrade from AntiVir or so? This is probably is the reason why since a month or so, my computer got so very slow (logged in with my main account). I have installed too much programs on my computer. Starting from scratch, formatting the harddisk and installing Windows again would be too much work. This stupid 'plugin' program is imbedded somewhere in Windows and I don't know where to look for it elsewhere. I already removed everything I could find with the name adaptec and directcd and udf-reader if XP wasn't mentioned in the name or description. I already looked for it in the startup list using msconfig and other utilities I downloaded from the net.

The old UDF-Reader program can't be found in the Add/Remove Software list eigther. I've searched for the following files, but I can't find any of them: Thank for the tips everyone, but still no go. If those suggestions don't fix things for you, look for and delete any of cdr4vsd.vxd cdralvsd.vxd cdudf.vxd cdudfrw.vxd or udfreadr.vxd if you can find them. What must I do to fix this? How do I remove this ancient program? I can only install Windows complete and this also doesn't work, because it isn't a newer version than the one on my computer, of course. I tried, using my original Windows-XP CD-ROM, to repair Windows, but this 'repair' option isn't there. I removed everything from the register with the name DirectCD and UDF (if XP wasn't mentioned), but still it tries to load on startup. Now, every time I startup my computer, Windows opens a little text-ballon telling me it had to refuse the loading this DirectCD program into the memory because it is in conflict with Windows and this might crash the system.Įverything works fine, but how do I remove this ancient program and keep it from loading every time? This UDF-Reader Program of course clashes with Windows-XP's own CD-RW reading and writing program. (Windows-XP asks permission first, but Being in a hurry, I gave this permission) What happened was, I have put someone's old CD-RW into my computer's CD-ROM drive.Īs you probably remember, when you put such a CD-RW into a computer on which DirectCD isn't installed, the CD-RW installs the little program program called UDF-Reader onto the computer in order to make it able to read the DirectCD formatted CD-RW. This version of windows seems to have it's own CD-RW (UDF) Reader and/or writer.
